The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election process at Bidieso in Obuasi on 12th July 2026.

The three men — Haruna Iddrisu alias Dole, Osei Boateng alias Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku alias Blackman — stormed the polling station armed with offensive weapons, scattered ballot boxes, and threatened election officials and voters, according to police.

The incident and police response

During the disruption at the polling station, the suspects caused significant disorder by scattering ballot boxes and intimidating those present. A Police reinforcement team responded swiftly to the incident and arrested all three suspects at the scene.

During the operation, officers retrieved one axe and one cutlass from the suspects.

Court appearance and charges

The three suspects were brought before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they faced charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.

All three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted each suspect bail in the sum of GHS50,000.00 with two justified sureties.

Ongoing investigation

The case has been adjourned to 10th August 2026. Investigations into the incident continue, and police are working to arrest other persons suspected to be involved in the disruption of the election process.
