Abu Trica Flown to America: Influencer Extradited Over $8M Romance Scam
Ghanaian social media figure Frederick Kumi, widely known as "Abu Trica," has officially been extradited to the United States to face federal prosecution. Kumi departed Ghana today aboard Delta Airlines flight DL157, following the completion of legal processes authorizing his transfer to U.S. custody.
The extradition comes exactly one week after the High Court in Accra fast-tracked and approved a U.S. request for his surrender on July 2. Kumi was initially arrested in December 2025 during a joint sting operation involving the FBI, Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, and other local intelligence agencies. He is accused of participating in a sophisticated network that allegedly used artificial intelligence tools to create fake personas, targeting and defrauding elderly Americans out of over $8 million.
