The Ghana Police Service has arrested Michael Mensah, 39, in connection with the murder of University of Cape Coast student Innocentia Atsufui Avinu. Mensah was arrested on Sunday June 15, 2026 at 7:15pm at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast by the Inspector General of Police's Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following sustained intelligence-led operations. Preliminary investigations reveal that on June 11, 2026 at 6:48pm, Mensah — who claims to be a teacher but also works as a driver — picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the UCC hostel area and drove her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen alive. Investigations are continuing and the Ghana Police Service say any further developments will be communicated to the public.
