Ghana's Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams confirmed that every player in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive an appearance fee of US$100,000, holding the figure flat with the bonuses paid at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments. The government chose not to raise the fee despite the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar. The Minister said every player named to the final squad will be eligible regardless of how many matches they play. The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The number, confirmed

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams confirmed that every player in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive an appearance fee of US$100,000, regardless of how many matches they play in the tournament. The figure holds the bonus flat with what the 2014 and 2022 squads received.

A historical comparison

Appearance fees for Black Stars players have moved over the years, ranging from US$50,000 in earlier editions up to US$120,000 in one cycle, before being standardised at US$100,000. Ghana's reporting has tracked the figure across tournaments.

Cedi vs the dollar

The government chose not to increase the fee despite the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar — a choice that draws the bonus closer to the cedi-equivalent value of previous tournaments rather than higher.

Eligibility

Every player included in Ghana's final squad will be eligible for the appearance fee by virtue of selection. The Minister confirmed there will be no scaling by minutes played or matches contested.

The tournament

The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Ghana's squad preparations are also being shaped by head coach Carlos Queiroz, who took charge of his first match against Wales on June 2.
