The Government of Ghana has expressed strong reservations following Canada's decision to refuse a temporary residence application for Black Stars midfielder Thomas Teye Partey ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) cited inadmissibility due to pending criminal proceedings in the UK which have not resulted in any conviction. Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dispatched an official note of protest and is actively holding talks with the Canadian High Commissioner, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat, to rescind the decision based on the presumption of innocence.
